How to Grow Greatness

(This article is about courage and includes shameless self-promotion – which in itself is an act of courage ;-)

In the last few days I’ve been going back through the feedback I’ve received about the Growing Greatness Programme I’ve created for mid-career women. The consistent takeout from the programme has been that participants unlock their courage: to step up or step out, to take risks whether that be to speak at a conference or turn down a job other’s think is a perfect fit, to clarify and vocalise what work they believe they are best at and what they want to do.

As one participant put it: “the programme helped me realise I’m capable of great things if I am willing to reach outside of my comfort zone and take the opportunities on offer.” She also said, “If you get the opportunity to join this course, grab it with both hands.” (but that’s another story ;-)

The thing I noticed about the feedback – other than the programme having its intended impact – is that finding courage is a critical part of leadership and learning. The root of the word courage is cor - the Latin word for heart, which in its earliest form translated to “speaking one’s heart”. Today we often associate courage with extreme acts of bravery. But for most of us, courage still means speaking our truth.

So, if you’re a mid-career woman in engineering, architecture, tech or the public sector, manage one, mentor one, live with one or care about one – please share this post or this link with them. We are offering programmes in Auckland, Tauranga, Wellington and Christchurch starting in early 2020 and they’re filling fast.

And if you’re not in this group and want something for you – please email me – I do lots of inhouse work with teams and current and future leaders and it all comes back to courage!
